Howdy, it’s me Arturo. Two years ago, on New Year’s Eve 2018 Transitioning to 2019, my grandfather proposed a proposition to me and me only. This proposition was to open a store, a retail store. This store would be the conduit to teach me the operations of a storefront and all the extras that come along with managing it. I thought about it deeply and immensely. Did I want to do this? Should I postpone college or a trade? Should I just work a similar job elsewhere? These questions were self-ruminated, only I was the one to give the Yes or No. I took him up on his offer and that’s where the seed was planted.



On February my grandpa offered to take me on a drive, east on the 15. We drive till we reached Fontana, after a few turns on to Merril and then Beech. There it was; a big plaza with a big suite available for lease. Not only did it look big on the outside with the suite dominating the architecture of the plaza, it was definitely big on the inside. After previewing the suite, the traffic to the plaza, and as well as calculating the logistics to supply such a suite; it was decided that this suite alone was the one to strike big. Even with the competition being dense and concentrated; we knew that it would work out. With my grandfather being the brains and brawn for all his stores and 20 years under his belt and my apprentice background of helping my grandfather with his previous stores for a lesser degree of time; we were going to be the team to get the suite on the map.



After a few months of setting up the sole proprietorship, renovating the suite, installing gondola shelves and other minor things in between. There it was, mission accomplished the store is ready to be stocked. With our distributors giving us free delivery due because of the exceeding amount because it was our first bulk purchase, we were ready to get started. This was our initial process, unwrap the plastic wrap off the pallet, taking the product out of the box, labeling and pricing the product and finally stocking the item. With shelves filled, and the store clean; the only thing left was to fill the register.



The initial months of opening were, to be frank, slow. Bit by bit, after months of traffic snowballing to what it is today. The location became a boom within one year’s time. With two years down, and going on the third. Its time for me to find new prospects and my grandfather to finally rest without business occupying his time and mind.
