My First Week at Digsy

Right off the bat my experience with Digsy was different than your typical 9 to 5 job. It was immediately obvious to me that this company had an intangible quality most are lacking.

I happened upon the job opportunity on a local community forum not typically known for it’s job listings. It was made clear that this was an opportunity to work for a company that held nothing back in it’s shameless promotion of startup culture. It called out to me.

What did I have to lose? I shot over an email with my resume and hoped for the best. While waiting for a response I poured over the Digsy website, read the Digsy blog, watched the Digsy YouTube videos, and creeped on every available bit of the CEO’s online presence. The more I learned the more I knew I wanted to be a part of this team.

I wasn’t looking for just any job. I was after more than just a paycheck. I wanted to work for a company with a future. A company I could grow with.

It wasn’t long before a quick chat on the phone quickly progressed to an interview. The interview had everything – tough questions, deceivingly simple questions, asides about our favorite Bukowski novels, and abstract thinking exercises. This was the one and only time I walked away from an interview thinking to myself, “That was fun.”

Then I got the news. “See you at 9am on Monday.” Awesome.

Any first day at a new job is always an interesting one. You never know what to expect. As I met the team I got the feeling that I was surrounded with hardworking people who were happy to see their team grow. People that knew how to get down to business and tackle their goals full steam ahead, but were at no risk of ever taking themselves too seriously. I felt welcomed.

This isn’t the type of place you wake up in the morning and think to yourself, “Aw crap, I have to go to WORK!?”

I’ve been employed by large multi-national corporations before. The type of place you can clock in, do the bare minimum, and still collect a paycheck years down the road. It’s a terribly unfulfilling mindset. An unsuccessful mindset. A way of thinking that you’re hard-pressed to find with any Digsy employee.

One thing I enjoy about working at a startup company is the high level of expectation. Everybody holds themselves and their teammates to a higher standard. We don’t need to simply sustain. We need to grow and we need to grow fast! There’s a seemingly never-ending supply of encouragement, gumption, drive, and desire. The team at Digsy embodies these qualities to the nth degree.

The pressure is on to learn, learn quick, and improve nonstop. I enjoy that pressure.

The company’s mission itself is something I’m proud to be a part of. We’ve managed to strike a balance of running a business and improving people’s lives and livelihood. Providing the resources for business owners to do what’s most important – focus on their business. All while our team of experts focus on the nitty-gritty like finding that ideal slice of commercial real estate that fits the needs of your budding or expanding venture.

Digsy is in the business of streamlining the American Dream.

Everything from that first Monday morning to drinks with the team after work on Friday has been an incredible experience. It’s only been a week, but I’m already looking forward to my first month, my first year, and beyond with this amazing company. One week down. Many, many more to come.

 Respectfully,

Scott Underwood - www.getdigsy.com
